Jotunheimen, translating to “Home of the Giants” in Norwegian, is the heart of Norway’s high mountains. This majestic region boasts North Europe’s 20 highest mountain peaks among glaciers and crystal-clear mountain lakes. Every year, Norwegians from all corners of the country come to Jotunheimen to summit peaks like Galdhøpiggen, Norway’s highest mountain, and trek through its peaceful valleys escaping the stress of the city.
Jotunheimen National Park was created in 1980 with the intention “To protect a wild, unique, beautiful, and largely untouched mountain landscape with fauna and flora at the transition between Eastern and Western Norwegian mountain nature.” The rugged landscape is home to a diverse and abundant wildlife, from one of Norway’s last wild reindeer populations to the solitary predators like wolverines and lynx. While there is little to no vegetation in Jotunheimen’s high mountains due to it’s harsh climate, you will find an abundance of flora in its lower valleys.
Come along on a hiking tour through the fantastic and diverse destinations in Jotunheimen National Park. Our local guides take you on adventures through some of Norway’s most iconic mountain tops, as well as some hidden pearls only known by locals. We tailor your hiking program – from easy 1 hour hikes to tough summits on mountain tops over 2000m high.
